Doula Support

Doulas offer invaluable continuity of care and support for the whole family through pregnancy, birth and the adjustment in to family life. We are there to listen, love, help, give confidence and not judge. Offering flexible, practical and emotional support we help prepare you to be empowered, and know your options, to assist you in making the right choices for your journey into parenthood.

Doulas are usually experienced women who have completed training in attending women in labour . We do not offer clinical skills and are not medically trained.

Why use a Doula - what does she bring?

  • A Doula gives plentiful ante-natal guidance and is a great ‘sounding board’ through pregnancy

  • Guides you through birth preparation and helps you to trust and understand the birth process

  • Offers huge support at the birth and into the early weeks of parenting

  • She will be on call for you throughout your baby’s ‘due month’ arriving at your home or hospital when needed, and remain with you continuously until after your baby is born.

  • Helps mum and partner know their birth preferences and stay flexible on the day.

  • Gives parents information to be able to help with decision-making

  • Provides continuity of care through midwife shift changes

  • Facilitates communication between parents and caregivers.

  • Is not a replacement (or competition) for your partner, nor will she interfere or give medical advice, but is another ‘helping hand’. She is an invaluable extra support for Dad too - a great birthing team.

I am passionate about helping couples have an empowered experience of birth and really believe the continuity of care a Doula can provide is a step towards helping to keep birth normal and fear at bay. I love helping women walk through the transition of pregnancy and prepare for their own birth into motherhood. It is a precious time and holds scope for a great step into their portal of female power.

I began teaching Pregnancy Yoga & Active Birth back in 2001 and for many years held weekly classes and monthly Birth Preparation workshops as 'Just Be'.

I have supported at 46 births and have been a Doula since 2008. I have been honoured to have supported families with all of their children births - the record stands at 3 so far, such a fantastic family with great supplies of chocolate at each birth!

I have supported at Hospital Births, Birth Centres and Home births, and have experience of inductions, assisted deliveries, emergency and planned c-sections,  twins delivery, PPH, medically unassisted free-births, baby born before arrivals.

I only take on 3 Birth Supports a year so that I can offer enough time, give full support and make a good connection with each family.

There is no ‘one way to give birth’ and I will support you in whatever way your path takes, without judgement, but with plentiful love.

"Thank you for supporting us in the birth of Fox. Thank you so much for trusting me and for being everything that we needed, you were incredible!" Trudy, Jay & Fox April 18

"A massive gracias for attending my birth and helping my parents during a long & difficult labour. Mama really appreciated your words of support and help with breathing & massage so I would remain calm. " Baby Eva

"I am very grateful to have had you there as I had no idea how a solo birth partner would have coped. We will never forget what you have done for us. Thank you so much" Dad Joe

"We couldn't have chosen a more caring, calm, warm and loving person to share our epic journey. Thank you for for all your incredible support, encouragement and love" Mum Bee  Jan 18

"Thank you so much for all the support, advice and friendship throughout my pregnancy, labour and these first few weeks. I really can’t tell you what a difference you’ve made.” Kate, Rob & Meredith - May ‘10

From the man’s point of view I can’t recommend Su highly enough. Watching a birth can be quite traumatic and the feelings of responsibility can get in the way of enjoying a life-making event. Having a doula like Su does so much more than just help the Mum!" Christine, Sean & Taisie, Oct 09

This necklace has been a lucky totem for many women, passed on from one to another. It carries with it the wisdom of all the women before us that have walked the path to birth. It reminds us to 'go inside' and surrender....
